Tropical atmospheric river aimed directly at Orange County soaks La Mirada

Rain began falling overnight from the 'atmospheric river' that is pumping tropical moisture from the southwest and will bring moderate to heavy showers with gusty winds throughout the day.

The 'pineapple express' system that is aimed directly at Orange County as it moves in from the Pacific is expected to intensify as the morning progresses and be heaviest from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The system will begin moving out of the area about 2 p.m. with a chance of a lingering shower possible through the night

Two to three inches of rain was expected to fall from the current storm a total of 1.55 inches had already in La Mirada as of 7 a.m. Thursday.

The Southland will not get a chance to dry out as a weaker cold front will move through the area on Friday that will drop up to another 1/4 inch to an already waterlogged La Mirada.

A chance of a shower is in the forecast through the weekend.
