The following was not an action taken by the La Mirada City Council. It also must be said that the viewpoint of those on the Athletic Council has not been heard publicly, and the only side I present is that of 850 kids.
As many in the community are learning after several years of political bickering over infractions the La Mirada Soccer Association has been kicked off the La Mirada Athletic Council just as the season gets underway.
The result is the 850 kids that are registered to play no longer have access to the fields at the Behringer Park Athletic Facility with the end result being their season was over before it started.
This community stands at a crossroads and the direction this takes will be very telling about what kind of community La Mirada really is.
Yes, adherence to the rules is important, but this should have been handled in a more timely fashion with regards to the when the membership was being canceled.
Politics should not prevail. Somehow a way must be found quickly that allows these kids to play.
I have always felt our city leaders and those active in community organizations have held the same unwritten core value that decisions are made 'In the interests of the community'.
It is my belief that a way to have the kids play soccer this year will be found
